I recently returned from a week of travels along the Caribbean coast of Colombia. #-ad_banner-#The sights were unbelievable… but the sounds were even more impeccable. You see, the region loves its music, particularly a type of music known locally as Vallenato (pronounced “ba-ji-an-ato”). From dawn until dusk you could hear the music being played from somewhere off in the distance. And though I enjoyed it all, as some of the locals informed me, the old singers are really the best because “they took the time to craft great songs.” You’ll probably… Read More

From dawn until dusk you could hear the music being played from somewhere off in the distance. And though I enjoyed it all, as some of the locals informed me, the old singers are really the best because “they took the time to craft great songs.” You’ll probably laugh when I tell you this, but this type of logic is exactly what has helped me succeed in the markets for years. It’s all about studying something so deeply that you really get to the bottom of what it’s all about. Because beating the market really just comes down to having discipline. Let me show you what I mean… Skimming the markets occasionally can help you find some decent investments. But if you really take the time to study and look carefully at all the options, there are some excellent opportunities that others… Read More

Today, I’d like to highlight one of these categories a little more in depth. Because quite frankly, I’m not sure any one of my criteria is more important than this… The ability to retain a loyal customer base and keep them buying your products for years is a hallmark of the world’s best businesses. That’s why I wasn’t surprised to come across a company that manages some of the world’s top luxury hotel brands, when researching for my new report, “The Top 10 Stocks For 2015.” And after learning more about this impressive company, there was no question I had to add it to my list. Now, I’ll admit, this is probably not a company you’re familiar with. However, I’m sure you’d recognize many of the luxury hotel brands it oversees. The company owns and operates more than 1,200 hotels and resorts — including Westin, Sheraton, W and St. Regis (to name a few) — in nearly 100 countries around the world. Last month was an eventful one for me. #-ad_banner-#I climbed hundred-foot waterfalls, traversed century-old bridges, and navigated rotten planks hanging over raging whitewater rapids. All of this is par for the course in the mineral exploration business, which is what I was doing recently in the eastern mountain ranges of Colombia. Over the course of my travels, I kept getting asked the same question. “Dave, where are gold prices headed?” “Up,” I answered. I say that confidently because I’ve become more and… Read More

All of this is par for the course in the mineral exploration business, which is what I was doing recently in the eastern mountain ranges of Colombia. Over the course of my travels, I kept getting asked the same question. “Dave, where are gold prices headed?” “Up,” I answered. I say that confidently because I’ve become more and more convinced that the rebound in gold is inevitable. Already this year gold has rallied almost 10%, and this could be just the beginning. In a recent issue of my premium resource advisory, Scarcity & Real Wealth, I laid out four themes that I’ve been watching closely to give me clues as to what’s next for gold. If I’m right, then it means it could kick off a serious gold rally. Today, I’d like to touch on each of these and explain why they should be of interest to investors right now. Read More

Think about the types of assets companies own that competitors can’t easily duplicate… From buildings to airports to hydroelectric dams, there are dozens of Irreplaceable Assets you can invest in around the world. The best part about Irreplaceable Assets is that there are literally dozens of them around the world — and regular investors like you and me can invest in them. A few weeks ago, I told you about a simple strategy that’s never lost money. Put simply, the longer you hold an investment, the better your chances of making a profit. The S&P 500 has never had a losing 20-year span, going all the way back to the 1950s. #-ad_banner-#The key is finding a handful of companies that enjoy huge (and lasting) advantages over the competition, pay fat dividends to their investors each year and buy back massive amounts of their own stock. Once you find them, the strategy is simple — just buy their shares and hold forever. But… Read More

Once you find them, the strategy is simple — just buy their shares and hold forever. But if you want to see the best reason why investing forever is the smartest way to let the market make you wealthy, pay attention to the table below. Earlier this year I ran a simple stock screen to find all the stocks in the United States that have returned more than 300% in the past year. To make sure we were dealing with solid companies, I only included firms with positive earnings. And to weed out the fly-by-night penny stocks, I kicked out anything with a market cap under $100 million. You can see the results for yourself.  … Read More

Early last month I stepped off a plane coming back from Colombia and found that energy markets were in a panic. The trigger was OPEC, which announced on November 27 that its member nations would not consider cutting oil output. The result was an 8.4% drop in West Texas Intermediate crude prices the following day. This energy selloff shouldn’t be news to any of our StreetAuthority Daily readers. In fact, just a couple of weeks ago, I told you about three ways to profit from cheap oil. And even if you didn’t read that issue, I’m sure you’ve noticed how… Read More

In fact, just a couple of weeks ago, I told you about three ways to profit from cheap oil. And even if you didn’t read that issue, I’m sure you’ve noticed how cheap prices have been at the gas pump. #-ad_banner-#Many observers were expecting a production cut from OPEC. They reasoned that with oil prices having dropped from over $100 per barrel to near $70 preceding the announcement, the world’s largest producers would make a strong move to protect their profits. Plenty were caught off guard when OPEC did not cut protection, hence the steep drop in oil prices following the announcement. There are a number of reasons for OPEC’s surprise move. One of the largest reasons being cited in the mainstream financial press is competition. OPEC has been feeling the heat… Read More

There’s a little green fruit sitting on the desk in front of me. I don’t know what it’s called. But it means a lot to me. #-ad_banner-#I’m writing this from a hotel room in Yangon, the capital of Myanmar. I’ve been visiting the country a lot lately in search of “The Next Big Thing” in the investment world. Many western companies, like MasterCard, Coke and Yum Brands, are jostling to get into Myanmar, which many believe is one of the last great untapped markets on Earth.   With a population of 53.7 million — making it the 24th most populous country in the world — Myanmar boasts a huge market that is just now becoming a force in the global economy. But despite its massive size, the country only recently emerged from a period of extreme poverty. That’s why I was touched when a local I met offered me a small green fruit (that is now sitting on my desk). It was a kind gesture from a fellow who I could tell had very little. I kept that fruit as a reminder of… Read More

One small but revealing item caught my eye. #-ad_banner-#No, I’m not talking about the collapse in oil prices. In fact, as I’ll explain in a moment, the way my Scarcity & Real Wealth readers and I will profit from this has nothing to do with oil prices at all. Let me explain… What caught my eye was a note about an oil pipeline being built to service burgeoning production from the Permian Basin play of West Texas. What was so interesting about the pipeline was the excessive demand to move oil through it. Simply put, the Permian Basin today has too much oil… and it needs to be transported from the remote locales of West Texas into consuming markets in places like the Gulf Coast. I’ve been on the phone with drillers working in this play. And they confirmed what I’ve heard from sources… Read More
